“Be Mysterious: Writers in Masks” Features Bruce Kurkowski

Hi. i’m b2 (aka Bruce Kurkowski), a 52 year old tow truck driver from Wisconsin. I’ve been writing most of my life, i just haven’t had anything published yet. But I’m working on it. I’ve been driving tow truck for almost six years now, and I’ve been on call 24/7 the whole time. I love it, and I’m good at it, but it really screws up a person’s sleep schedule. I never really sleep anymore, I just take a lot of naps, and this has given me the strangest dreams.

I’ve always had a warped, very active imagination. I’ve been plagued (or blessed, depending on how you look at it) with nightmares my whole life, maybe as a result of watching shows like Night Gallery, Alfred Hitchcock, Outer Limits, Inner Sanctum and any other kind of horror shows I could find as a kid. I had a very vivid, recurring nightmare over a clip from the Bullwinkle show when I was five or six years old.

My taste in reading materials has always been along the same lines, too. Stephen King, Peter Straub, Clive Barker, just to name a few. The scarier, the better. So I guess the nightmares aren’t all that surprising. Neither is the fact that my best writing is in the horror genre. (Sorry, Mom.)

I’m really not a psycho, even if I write like one. So, if your car breaks down on a lonely road in the middle of the night, and you call for a tow truck, don’t worry. All those urban legends about the killer tow truck drivers aren’t really true. Well, most of them, anyway….
