August 2020’s Reads

I told you about my super special awesome bookclub where we are given a bingo card and random reading prompts. You read the book and a mod gives it a look over before checking off your box. It gives me something to look forward to every month, and helps me prioritize my massive TBR (To Be Read) pile.

My TBR pile will swallow you whole. It’s tried. Several times.

One book gets to pull double duty and work for any prompt AND the free space. Woo hoo!

While I was choosing my last book, I realized that I had inadvertently read only female authors this month. So I deliberately chose a female author for my last book, and it was very cool to see how different women approach different subjects. I enjoyed it.

This month’s reads were:

The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater (LGBTQ+ prompt)

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore (Latinx Character)

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (Female POV)

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa (Happy Ending)

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James (Library Book)

Beach Read by Emily Henry (Wit OTP/True Love)

Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn (With Siblings)

Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley  (Blue Cover)

My favorite read this month was definitely Wild Beauty, closely followed by The Sun Down Motel and My Dark Vanessa. I’ve done a brief review of each book on Goodreads.

What are you reading? Would you recommend it?

  1. Yesterday I finished an ARC of Grayfriars Reformatory by Frazer Lee. Yes, I recommend it if you’re into Gothic horror. Last night I started Sara Tantlinger’s To Be Devoured. Yes, I recommend it if you have a strong stomach and like good prose.
