My Good News!

I mentioned earlier that I have good news about my son.  It’s great news.  Wonderful news!   It’s something wonderful and life-changing.

My seven year old nonverbal son now says “Mama.”

He looks me dead in the eyes and says “Mama”.  He has actually been saying it for a couple of weeks, but now it’s rock-solid and consistent.  He also says a variant of “Daddy”, “out”, “apple” and now we’re working on “love you”.  He hums identifiable songs. He’s experimenting with his voice.  I can’t even explain the joy that this gives me.

I just wanted to share that. 🙂

  1. Mercedes, I am so glad you shared this news because I could not possibly be any happier for you (and your whole family). Your son sounds like he’s as cool as you are.

I’m smiling ear to ear for you!!!!!

  2. Thank you so much, everybody! Yes, I’m absolutely over the moon. We started private speech therapy and it gave him that little extra nudge that he needed. I’d really like to post a video so that you guys can hear him sometime. I don’t think the word “miraculous” is too much of a stretch. It certainly feels like a miracle to me. 🙂

  3. Ooohhh! Congratulations Mercedes! Having their child say “Mama” or “Daddy” is something most parents take for granted; what a wonderful gift from the universe for you & your husband.
