Goodbye, Jack Ketchum <3

His name was Dallas Mayr, but most of you know him as Jack Ketchum. He was a brilliant writer and dear man. If you haven’t read The Girl Next Door, you should. It’s a wonderfully written, horribly disturbing book. I have a few memories of Dallas, but my favorite was at Killercon in 2011. I had just had my triplets, and … Read More

Slow Death By Glass

I love glass. Beautiful, beautiful glass. I’m very nearly obsessed with it. But right now it’s out to get me. Within the last two weeks, two glasses of ours shattered. I cut my foot on a piece of glass. My middlest cut HER foot on a piece of glass, which required Surgery By Daddy and my very best pair of … Read More

BEAUTIFUL SORROWS is Selling Out!

http://www.shocktotem.com/09/26/2012/beautiful-sorrows-selling-fast/

I think that I just experienced the best weekend of my life.  We launched the pre-release issues of Beautiful Sorrows and sold out all 50 copies that we had.  The Limited Edition Hardcover (we’re only making 50) is available for pre-order.  We only have 19 of those and expect to sell out soon.  Can you believe this?  I can’t!  I have wonderful pictures to show you, but first I need to get on the ball and prepare for the Beautiful Sorrows blog tour that kicks off in October!  Take a quick look at the Shock Totem page to see the staff together for the first time, and also to get ordering information.

What a fantastic experience! I can’t wait to share it with you soon!

In Which I Suggest That You Don’t Check Your Ego At The Door

I was on a panel at Killercon last year, and I came out with an unpopular opinion concerning writer’s groups.  Don’t always check your ego at the door, I said.  Sometimes it isn’t worth it.  You can see the expressions that R.J. Cavender, Sam W. Anderson, and Brad C. Hodson are wearing. (Actually, I’m just lucky that they’re looking so serious in … Read More

K-K-K-Killercon 2011 Prologue

Well. WELL.  You know how things go crazy sometimes?  You’re stumbling up a hill and every obstacle imaginable seems to be in your way? You almost give up, but since you’re a rather determined person, you grit your teeth and clamber up that hillside on hands and knees if necessary.  You get to the top, see the view, and think, … Read More

Hiya, I’m on the Radio!

I had an impromptu radio interview at KillerCon.  It’s on Date Night in Vegas KLAV 1230 AM.  I was just getting over a migraine and had 30 seconds to prepare for the interview. Scary?  SCARY.  But I did it, and it was a lot of fun.  If you’d like to hear it, you can find it here.  The volume is … Read More

Pitching For The Terrified. The Actual Pitch

So I told you how I bumbled into the opportunity to pitch to agents at KillerCon. I was extremely fortunate because the first slot that I scored belonged to an editor, Angela James.  Her job?  She critiqued our pitches so that we weren’t complete goons when we stood in front of the agents.  Serendipity, thou art divine. First off, Angela James is … Read More

I’m Off To Con Those Killers

Today is the beginning of KillerCon.  I’m pretty excited.  I’m also lucky because I don’t have to worry about the logistics of flying, booking a room, etc because baby?  I’m already here! The downside of living in Vegas is that everybody else will be starry eyed and foaming at the mouth, and I have to remain realistic.  While they tour … Read More
