Miss Murder Sells a Poem!

I’m delighted to announce that I sold my poem “It Hurts When I Breathe” to the Under Her Skin: A Woman in Horror Poetry Showcase by Black Spot Books! I am very proud of this poem and it was painful to write. I think the best poetry is. Lynne Hansen did the gorgeous cover art. You know this is absolutely … Read More

Hello, Apocalypse! Hail in Las Vegas!

While people back East are praising the arrival of spring, Las Vegas was hit with rain, snow, and hail. It was glorious! We took a brief break from school to run outside and enjoy it. Middlest: Mom, the rain is funny. It’s floppy. Me: That’s hail, darling. It’s something magical in a life that has become rather routine lately.

TMS: Halfway Through!

I hit the halfway point and I can honestly say that everything has changed. I’m sleeping an average of six hours a night instead of two or three. My PHQ-9 score went from an unsustainable 23 to a 5. Can you believe that? Every day they ask me, “What word would you use to describe your mood?” and I’ve gone … Read More

So Once Upon An October…Todd Keisling and I [Video]

So Once Upon An October, Todd Keisling and I were scheduled to have an interview with a podcast host. Or something. And the host kind of stood us up. So Turp Kardling and I decided to interview each other, which was a lot of fun. We talk writer’s block, pandemic, and video games. I hope you enjoy it as much … Read More

February 2021 Reads

I told you about my super special awesome bookclub on Facebook (The Book Democracy Book Club) where we are given a bingo card and random reading prompts. TMS Therapy: The First Week [video]

We did brain mapping and then it was time for the first session. The magnets were next to my skull, but not actually touching it. They would click loudly (wear earplugs!) for four seconds, be silent for 11 seconds, and then click for another four seconds. Rinse and repeat for about 20 minutes. Even though nothing was touching my skull, … Read More

Arterial Bloom is an Official Bram Stoker Nominee!

Oh, my friends. I can’t tell you how wonderful this is. You know that awards are subjective and you’re proud of what you and your team have accomplished regardless, but there is this SWOOSH of excitement that comes when you realize your peers are validating your hard work. It feels like a cross between giddiness and awed disbelief. I can’t … Read More

May I Read You A Story? A Virtual Bloody Valentine.

The Colorado Springs Chapter of the Horror Writers Association has put together a virtual reading for Women in Horror Month. It’s an absolutely lovely way to listen to authors reading their work and support them. I was invited to read “Black Mary,” which is a dark tale about love, abuse, and survival. Darling, may I read you a story? You … Read More

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy: Brain Mapping

Brain mapping. Frankly, I didn’t know exactly what to expect and the sound of it was terrifying. In reality, it was no big deal. TMS targets the¬†dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which is the area of the brain that is most known for executive functions like working memory, decision making, and motor planning. It’s also¬†connected to other parts of the brain that … Read More
