Well, it’s something that no author ever wants to hear: my book is going out of print. Apex Book Company was gracious enough to pick up my collection (and debut book!) Beautiful Sorrows when Shock Totem Publishing shuttered. Apex did a stellar job, but they’re streamlining their catalogue and Beautiful Sorrows is one of the casualties. Jason wrote a blog post here explaining the situation. I’m grateful to Apex for the hard work they’ve put in, and also the friendly, gracious way they handled the separation. They gave me my rights back and I will work hard to republish Beautiful Sorrows, but I’m not quite sure when that will be.
Beautiful Sorrows is available at a 40% off! The discount will be taken at the register. This is a great time to stock up on Christmas and birthday gifts, or you could buy a ton and paper your room with them. There are also other strong titles you’ll want to pick up before they disappear. (For example, I’d suggest Jennifer Pelland’s Unwelcome Bodies and Sing Me Your Scars by Damien Angelica Walters. They’re favorites.) If you’d like to support your authors and wave goodbye to some of our works, you can purchase them here. Beautiful Sorrows is available here.
There is a place where sorrows pile up like snow and rest in your hair like cherry blossoms. Boys have wings, monsters fall in love, women fade into nothingness, and the bones of small children snap like twigs. Darkness will surely devour you—but it will be exquisitely lovely while doing so.
Mercedes M. Yardley’s Beautiful Sorrows is an ephemeral collection encompassing twenty-seven short tales full of devastation, death, longing, and the shining ribbon of hope that binds them all together.
